mfryer
More progress.... My seat belts arrived from ACS and I test fitted the front set. I fabricated the step (big mistake, I should have just bought one from Gozy Girrrls). Torsional layups on the main gear, and started to work on the landing brake.... http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/ Flying Backward
Big Steve
mfyer: You probably will want to make yourself a retractable step. The plans one is not much to most peoples likeing. Big Steve
Well of course. Less drag maybe ,002 miles per hour faster. But the cool factor is the important one. Look no step. Then you push your step out. I had a retractable step on my Longeze 20 years ago. I liked it because it stuck out further so I could get my whole foot on it. mfryer
Well .002 miles per hour is not really worth the effort. But the cool factor is a different subject altogether. I will give it some thought. But in the meantime I would like to stick to the plans, at least for now....

Edge 513
Looks very professional. Admirable work. However it seems the new application methods are getting a bit out of hand. Curry powder & urine is not an approved additive to enhance the adhesion for these layups. If you've got something else going on to create the intense yellow coloring, no matter, I would suggest you stifle yourself and stick with plans methodology. =] Quote Self confessed Wingnut. I installed the plans step, but it looks like it was for nothing since I plan to do the "Cozy Girrrl" strake mod. I expect to do a step similar to what Wayne Hicks has done. If you've got something else going on to create the intense yellow coloring, no matter, I would suggest you stifle yourself and stick with plans methodology. =] Curry powder and urine??? Lets examine the color wheel and perhaps that will shed some light on the situation. Blue (the color of the foam) + amber (the color of the epoxy)=green. Add a little micro (white) and you get some various hues from yellow to green. Some folks are used to MGS (clear). If anyone has experience with EZ-Poxy (amber colored hardener) and see that what I am producing is off, then please let me know what I might be doing wrong here. Phil Kriley
I think it's just the lighting in the picture and the proximity of the blue foam next to your work - makes your landing brake look like it's glowing a strange greenish/yellow color on my monitor - not to worry! Big Steve
Your fine. I am using eze poxy 84 also and I get some pretty strange colored stuff occasionally. The thing will be white in no time. mfryer
It's not the curry I am worried about, I actually enjoy a good curry dish, Tai or Indian. Its the other ingredient I am worried about! The EZ-Poxy and blue foam do produce some fun colors, but the flourecent lighting probably does it's part to enhance the effect. I will put the color wheel away until it comes time to paint.... So many choices...

mfryer
More progress on the landing brake... I was thinking that this step would be a simple one. Unfortunately I have been plagued by all sorts of little problems. Perhaps its just time again to clean the workshop and slow down. Maybe put the curry on the shelf and regroup . Really the main problem I had, was the interference of the plywood reinforcement block in the landing brake and the middle piano hinge bolt, preventing the brake from closing all the way. I removed a portion of the block and I will lay up 3 or so plies of BID in its place. If anyone has a concern about that remedy please let me know. mfryer
on the cozy, it has counter sunk screws where you have bolt heads So I imagine that sometime between the Long-EZ plans and the Cozy development, folks got wise to the problem. I ordered the bolts as the Long-EZ plans indicated. I needed to make some adjustments to get everything to work, but for now I think I will leave the bolts as is. I imagine there is probably something about this in a central states newsletter. I have to join that soon.....
mfryer
This weekend I refurbished an engine mount I acquired with the help of my brother and a couple of his co-workers who provided some bead blasting and minor welding work. mfryer
After much hand wringing and head scratching I finally have the wheels mounted . A little more work on the landing break and I can finally move on the the next chapter. Thanks everyone for input on mounting the wheels. As you can see in the photo there are some washers on the axle bolts that that do not belong. I will order shorter blots and do away with the washers then they arrive.
